What to Read this Month: June
I read a ton of books. Every month I plan to share some recommendations with you. Here are 3 I think you should read in June:
For your spiritual health: Plain Theology for Plain People by Charles Octavius Boothe
Why you need to read this: It is important for us to get back to the basics. This book is over 100 years old but it speaks to the heart today. Boothe was born into slavery but became educated and sought to create a book that explained the truth of Christianity in plain terms. You should read this to hear the truth about our faith and God who is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore. You should also read it because Boothe gives us good insight into how Christians of the past thought and lived.
For your physical health: Bigger Leaner Stronger by Mike Matthews
Why you need to read this: There is a lot of junk on the internet when it comes to getting your physical health in order. Everyone has the magic pill diet and just easy enough workout to give you the body of your dreams. The truth is, you only get there by putting in the work. The good news is that it’s not as much work or as complex as you may think. Mike cuts through the fat and gives you everything you need to see the changes you want to see in a year. This is the book that transformed my perspective on diet and exercise, give it a read.
Something to challenge you: Deep Work by Cal Newport
Why you need to read this: We are way too distracted. We live in a world of constant noise and endless entertainment. Our ability to sit down and do hard, concentrated work for extended periods of time has been hurt by this. In this book, Cal teaches us how to regain the ability to do Deep Work. I recommend this for anybody struggling with productivity, creativity, or simply holding a sustained thought.
